Anti-Bullying

During the presentation of anti-bullying two students came into class to educate us on bullying and the effects that it has on people. At first they just spoke about the different types of bullying, from verbal to physical, cyber and even sexual. They explained how this can change others’ lives and make it very difficult for them as they grow as a person. We watched a video about bullying and it showed all of the different people who have been bullied or feel like an outsider. I was never really bullied growing up so I wasn’t aware of all the things bullying can do to a person. We also did an activity where they put a red piece of tape on the ground and separated the class into two groups. Both standing on opposite sides of the tape. Then they asked questions and if it applied to you then you would stand on the line. This activity was to have us realize what we have in common with each other and to learn a little more about the people in our class. After that we sat in a circle and went around and said something about ourselves that others might not have known already. Unfortunately there were only about twelve people in class that day so I would have liked to have learned more about the rest of the classmates who weren’t there as well. Once everyone shared something about themselves everyone got a piece of paper with somebodies name on it and they had to write something that they like about that person on the paper and pass it on to the person next to them. This went around until everyone had the opportunity to write something about everyone. It was pretty entertaining to see what people had to say. Overall it was pretty fun and enjoyable. At first I thought it was going to be extremely lame but it turned out to be a good time. In the future I’ll keep this activity in mind to remind myself about all the different types of bullying. I’m not really a people person so I tend to ignore people whenever I don’t want to talk to them or care to. I never knew that was a form of bullying but I guess I understand how that could hurt somebodies feelings. I’m also not a very “emotional” person, so sometimes I forget that certain things that may not hurt my feelings may hurt others. I’ll have to work on being more considerate towards others and thinking a little more about how my responses may affect them.
