Anti-Bullying

During the presentation of anti-bullying two students came into class to educate us on bullying and the effects that it has on people. At first they just spoke about the different types of bullying, from verbal to physical, cyber and even sexual. They explained how this can change others’ lives and make it very difficult for them as they grow as a person. We watched a video about bullying and it showed all of the different people who have been bullied or feel like an outsider. I was never really bullied growing up so I wasn’t aware of all the things bullying can do to a person. We also did an activity where they put a red piece of tape on the ground and separated the class into two groups. Both standing on opposite sides of the tape. Then they asked questions and if it applied to you then you would stand on the line. This activity was to have us realize what we have in common with each other and to learn a little more about the people in our class. After that we sat in a circle and went around and said something about ourselves that others might not have known already. Unfortunately there were only about twelve people in class that day so I would have liked to have learned more about the rest of the classmates who weren’t there as well. Once everyone shared something about themselves everyone got a piece of paper with somebodies name on it and they had to write something that they like about that person on the paper and pass it on to the person next to them. This went around until everyone had the opportunity to write something about everyone. It was pretty entertaining to see what people had to say. Overall it was pretty fun and enjoyable. At first I thought it was going to be extremely lame but it turned out to be a good time. In the future I’ll keep this activity in mind to remind myself about all the different types of bullying. I’m not really a people person so I tend to ignore people whenever I don’t want to talk to them or care to. I never knew that was a form of bullying but I guess I understand how that could hurt somebodies feelings. I’m also not a very “emotional” person, so sometimes I forget that certain things that may not hurt my feelings may hurt others. I’ll have to work on being more considerate towards others and thinking a little more about how my responses may affect them.

2041

It's 2041 and it's time to wake up! My first class is at 12:30 and I told my robotic maid to wake me up at 11am with breakfast waiting for me. I jump in my shower that is programmed to leave me squeaky clean. I'm texting back all the people that I woke up with messages from since my phone is now water proof and indestructible. I get out and sign into my computer where I begin to browse my closet. I click on what I want to wear and have it come out of a machine. This saves a whole lot of space in my dorm. I'm always late to everything even though my maid is always on time with waking me up. It is now 12:15 and I have to get to class asap! I get on my fancy hover craft board that will get me there in less then 5 minutes. I walk into class take my seat on the usual couch that I sit in. I love the atmosphere at this school since they replaced the desks with comfy couches. I get out my iPad which everyone uses now and start taking notes on how to improve the environment since it's so horrible now. After all of my classes are out of the way I'm so hungry and can't wait to get back to my dorm so I go to the vending machine where they serve full meals. Delicious. I head home as I eat my meal since my hover board is that convenient. After a long day I hop on my bed and put on my TV glasses to watch my favorite shows in 3D. Eventually I doze off and wake up to start my day all over again.

Advertising

We see advertising everywhere we go. The best advertising technique for me has got to be the jingles or commercials that catch the viewers attention. I usually give in to name brands unless they taste the same to me. I'm also swayed by celebrity endorsements if I like the product.

For example, Lucky Charms cereal has a friendly leprechaun for its advertisements. Their commercials are meant to grab childrens attention. Lucky charms is a cereal with marsh-mellows in it with different shapes and colors that go along with the leprechaun like shooting stars and four leaf clovers. As you can see the box is red, which as we learned last class is used with many other foods to remind the brain of hunger. Not only are they trying to catch childrens attention but also the parents by having Whole Grain and a "good source of calcium & vitamin D". The part that they aren't advertising is the fact that Lucky Charms cereal contains 41% sugar.

Environmental Footprint

If everyone lived like I do, it would take 5-4 Earths to provide enough resources. A footprint is kind of like the effects that you're actions make on Earth. We have to think about how many people out there have bad habits like the rest of us and what that's doing to the planet that we live off of. I know for a fact that I take really long showers, so I could shorten them to save water. I also don't recycle so if I just took that small extra step and recycled that could help reduce my footprint.

A little about me.

As you can see my name's Andrea Espinosa. I was born in Atlanta Georgia on January 13, 1993. I moved to Lakeland Florida when I was around three years old. Lakeland is located somewhere in-between Tampa and Orlando. I have an older sister named Samantha who attends FIU, she's two years older then me making her twenty. My parents are still happily married living at home with our two dogs Snoopy and Maggie. About a year ago my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, thankfully they caught it at a very early stage and got it taken care of. As far as I know she's doing great. I'm a fun loving girl. I love going out with friends, listening to music, watching tv, shopping, reading and so much more. I'm majoring in Finance .. for now. I plan on changing it to something else to do with business because I absolutely SUCK at math. When I was younger I didn't want to be an actress, model, singer, princess or any of those type of things. I always dreamed of being an astronaut. Untill I found out that I wasn't just horrible at math but at science as well. I'd still love to go into outer space, the stars, planets and galaxies amaze me. The ocean also interests me just for the simple fact that it's HUGE and many things remain undiscovered there. I guess I should add that yesterday on August 28, 2011 one of my friends from back home passed away. He was in a car accident and didn't make it. I knew him back in middle school and was really close to him but lost touch throughout high school. We still talked occasionally but not as much as before.  My heart breaks for all of his close friends, family, and anyone else who loved him. He was way too young but I guess he's in a better place now. His death opened my eyes to the sad reality that life's too short and many of us take it for granted. I plan on appreciating everyone in my life more and living it to the fullest because tomorrow is never promised.
